Should the OEE be calculated in the maintenance system (CMMS/EAM), in production tracking systems (MES, ERP), in monitoring systems (IoT based, SCADA, PLC, DCS)? Or perhaps in an external system based on data from multiple sources either automatically or manually input? There is no right or wrong answer, it all depends on your current needs, situation, and IT landscape.

This article is written for infrastructure or plant owners contracting with Chinese EPC companies for projects outside of China. Chinese builders have come to dominate the global infrastructure market along the “Belt and Road”, the loosely defined “New Silk Road” of infrastructure-driven development across nearly 140 countries.

For EPC companies, Chinese and international, O&M preparation, the Smart O&M or CMMS system, can provide a key differentiator during the tendering process. It is also an important deliverable in the project, to ensure O&M handover and maintenance preparedness.

Experience has shown that the earlier reliability and maintainability are taken into account in a construction project, the better.
